In my many years of working in animation and VFX on major Netflix, Disney, and Warner Brothers projects, I have been working with Autodesk Flow, Shotgrid, and Shotgun, as they have been previously called, throughout my career. Throughout this time, I have become highly knowledgeable of the front and back ends of the software, streamlining and “artist proofing” pages so that teams can navigate the data they need without errors. Additionally, I strive to populate my pages with colour and humor – did you know that widget titles support emotes? – This helps make the mundane white pages that SG defaults to more inviting to our creatives.
Additionally, my knowledge of Python programing language allows me to work with SG’s back end to create automations to save production staff and artists fewer buttons to click and fields to check; for example, when an artist submits a version, the task status updates automatically. Or even a bot in Slack called Bertie that sends notifications to alert artists when an asset is ready for use.
From an early point in my career as a Production Assistant, I was nick-named “The Shotgrid Wizzard” for my understanding of the software and would be the point of call for on-boarding and training new crew on the magical ways of Shotgrid. I also have produced short videos and documents for artists instructing where to find their tasks, where to submit and how to input time logs, saving production on setting up a call to walk through the steps each time.
